About
James Fardoulys is a Brisbane author who has a Graduate Diploma in Journalism and a Masters in Creative Writing from Queensland University of Technology, which he squeezed into spare moments between raising a family and working in his first career as an orthopaedic surgeon.
The Cape, an action-crime-thriller set in the remote tropical wilderness of Cape York, is his debut novel.
During his early working life as a doctor he spent time in small regional hospitals around the state, and it was far north Queensland which captured his imagination.
“It is a place I keep coming back to, never failing to be inspired, surprised, and entertained by the place, and impressed by the people who live in this frontier environment.”
He spent most of his later working life as an Orthopaedic Surgeon in Brisbane, involved with a number of sports teams. In his spare time he is a martial arts instructor (Kung Fu) and has a pilot’s licence, but writing has always been his passion. Once the last of his children left home, he swapped his scalpel for a keyboard and became a full-time writer.
He lives in Brisbane with his wife, Yolande.
His writing heroes include Michael Crichton, Mick Herron, Robert Ludlum and Tom Clancy in the action-thriller genre and George Orwell, Kurt Vonnegut and Isaac Asimov in SF. He is also an admirer of the prose of Cormac McCarthy and John Steinbeck.
